Features

Cabot Interior Oil Varnish enriches fine wood surfaces with a beautiful, clear finish that protects surfaces from minor nicks, scratches, spills and stains. For interior fine wood surfaces including doors, furniture and cabinets

Coverage

One gallon covers up to 500-650 sq. ft. (46-60 m²) depending upon surface porosity. Do not thin. One quart covers up to 125-165 sq. ft. (11.6-15.3 m²) depending upon surface porosity. Do not thin.

Where to Use

For use on bare or unfinished interior wood including floors, doors, woodwork, furniture and cabinets. Safe for children's furniture.

Preparing Your Surfaces

General: Clean and dry surface thoroughly, removing all dirt, dust, wax and wood marks. Remove gloss with sandpaper or liquid gloss remover. Do not apply over lacquer or shellac.
New Wood: Smooth wood lightly with sandpaper. Stain, if desired and sand lightly again. Remove sanding dust. For the smoothest finish appearance, apply one or two coats of Cabot® Sanding Sealer, then varnish.
Painted or Varnished Wood: Remove all paint and varnish in poor condition with sandpaper or paint and varnish remover following manufacturer's instructions. Then, follow new wood instructions. Varnish in good condition merely needs to be clean and have the gloss dulled.

Application

DO NOT SHAKE! Stir well before using. Before applying the finish to the entire surface, check effect by testing on an extra piece of the same wood or by applying to a hidden part of the object. Apply a uniform, thin coat using a high quality, clean polyester or natural bristle brush. Brush in even strokes in the direction of the wood grain. Allow to dry overnight. Sand lightly and remove all sanding dust before applying additional coats. For best results, apply at least two thin coats.

Cleanup and Disposal

Clean brushes and equipment with mineral spirits. Dispose of empty cans or unused portion in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. Close container when not in use. Soak oily rags, lambswool, steel wool, cloths or any other material in water after use to avoid spontaneous combustion. Danger: Rags, steel wood or waste soaked with this product may spontaneously catch fire if improperly discarded. Immediately after each use, place rags, steel wool or waste in a sealed, water-filled metal container.
